STRONGER EACH STEP

From heart failure to heart health — one step, one ride, one day at a time.

In 2019, I was diagnosed with severe heart failure. I weighed over 145kg, had never exercised, and my heart's ejection fraction had dropped to just 20%. Today, I've lost over 50kg, my ejection fraction is back up to 65%, and I'm running 5Ks, riding trails, and chasing goals I once thought were impossible.

The comeback

Rock bottom to the road.

Stronger Each Step is my journey from severe heart failure to heart health — from rock bottom to the road, the trail, and beyond.

It is not a polished highlight reel. It is the record of the work: the runs, rides, training notes, hard days, better days, and the small improvements that add up over time.

Current goals

Building strength, fitness, and confidence.

Sub-30 5K

Training toward a 5K time I once would not have believed was possible.

160km bikepacking

Preparing for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail with cycling, camping, and longer outdoor efforts.

Outdoor adventure

Using running, riding, trails, and camping as part of rebuilding life properly.

Why this site exists

The numbers show what happened. The story explains why it mattered.

Garmin records the numbers: distance, pace, heart rate, elevation, and routes. This site adds the story around those numbers — what the effort felt like, what I was working on, and what changed along the way.

Some sessions are proper efforts. Some are easy laps. Some are just about getting out the door. The point is to keep showing up and keep building, one step, one ride, one day at a time.
